Victoria Juan

Victoria, 12 years old now, her mother died in childbirth and instantly she became an orphan. Her father was not known, no family member from either side stepped in to take the responsibility of caring for this precious life. Mama Selina (a single mother of 5 children) was a closest friend and a neighbor to Victoria's mother. After her death, mama Selina took Victoria in and cared for her like her own daughter. She is up to date, survives in mama Selina`s care. She has grown up, extremely smart and talented young girl. However, mama Selina can only meet basic needs for Victoria and not her education because mama Selina is not learned/educated to get formal employment. She survives by selling small items in the market to meet her daily household basic needs.

HOW UACD RESPONDED AND HELPED VICTORIA JUAN WITH HER SCHOOL

UACD took the initiative to support Victoria both in her school and life at home by providing financial and material assistance to support her education as well as supporting Mama Selina (Victoria's foster carer) to enable her to take a good care of Victoria.

Through the financial and material support from United Agency for Community Development (UACD), Victoria is now attending her primary four (P.4) in Mindset Nursery & Primary school, Juba, South Sudan. Right from her primary one, she always gets the highest marks in her class, placing her in very good performance ranking. She has a very good spirit and an amazing memory. She is a great gift to the community.

After learning that her mother died at childbirth when she was born, she has developed the vision of becoming a professional human doctor (Gynecologist) so that no woman dies at childbirth like her mother. ‘‘I want to save the lives of mothers giving birth to other lives”.

Many children like Victoria need our help for them to realize their dreams.
